WYWL Community Service

The Westport Young Woman’s League members arrange various charitable collections and food drives for organizations that help people in need in Westport and our neighboring communities. Some of the organizations we have supported include: Homes with Hope (Community Kitchen, Gillespie Shelter, Bacharach Community, Susie’s House), Westport Department of Human Services, CT Department of Children and Families (Children’s Bank), Cardinal Shehan Center, Mercy Learning Center and Caroline House.

Community Kitchen

The Homes with Hope Community Kitchen in the center of Westport serves meals to men, women and children 365 days a year. The League provides dinner and dessert the third Thursday of every month for approximately 40 people. This opportunity is one of most popular Community Service events because it provides food to people in need in our town.

Westport Clean Up Day

WYWL participates in town-wide events like Westport Clean Up Day. For the last few years, we have helped to clean up Burying Hill Beach. The whole family (and friends and neighbors) can come and help make our community cleaner and better together!

Westport Senior Center

WYWL hosts an annual high tea at the Westport Senior Center, which is located in the heart of downtown Westport and is run by the Department of Human Services. Members bake and assemble tea sandwiches then serve tea at this popular event.

In conjunction with one of our Super Grant Winners, The Rowan Center, and the Westport Library, the WYWL presented a screening of a documentary on toxic masculinity, Roll Red Roll. It was followed by a panel discussion. WYWL has also shown the movie The Mask You Live In. These community events foster thought-provoking conversations.
