Our Chief want is someone who will inspire us to be what we know we could be.
–Ralph Waldo Emerson
This will be my 13th year as a member of the Westport Young Woman’s League. In that time, I have had the opportunity to see our group accomplish amazing things. Over the last 13 years, we have evolved as a group, but even better I have seen myself and other members evolve. The Westport Young Woman’s League gave me the opportunity to try out things and learn new skills. The group supported me and gave me advice when I had baby #1 (now 9!) and baby #2 (now 6!). I still look to league members, all whom I consider friends, to help me, teach me and best of all to sometimes commiserate with me.
My main goal is for all of us to feel passionate about what we are doing. We have a choice about how and with who we spend our time so why shouldn’t we be energized and enjoy what we choose? I want to refocus on our mission statement, the heart of which is promoting community. Sometimes that will mean fundraising, sometimes volunteering and sometimes having fun together. We should promote and build community first and foremost amongst ourselves. We need to inspire, support and be energized by each other. My crazy vision for this year is for it to be – at least in moments – like a big group hug. Working together we can make a big difference in a lot of lives – the most important one is yours.
Here’s to a great year!
