Welcome to the official website for the Westport Young Woman’s League.
The Westport Young Woman’s League (WYWL), is a non profit (501c3) philanthropic organization of women committed to promoting a sense of community through volunteerism and social activities.
Since 1956 the WYWL has been helping people in need across Fairfield County. Through our Ways and Means process, we have donated almost $4 million — $2 million in the past decade alone — to fund local charities that serve families and children in poverty, the homeless, victims of abuse, seniors and students, as well as cultural programming throughout our region.
Our two main fundraisers are: Craft Westport, a nationally recognized art and craft show that will take place this year at Staples’ High School on the November 9 and 10, 2013; and The Minute Man Race (10K; 5 K Run and Walk; and Kids Fun Run) that is scheduled in Westport on April 27, 2014. Both events have been fixtures of our community for over 30 years. Our fundraisers would not take place without the generous support of our sponsors. If you are interested in partnering with us on one or more of our events please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org .
The WYWL membership is the instrument by which we fulfill our mission and enrich both our community and our own lives. In addition to organizing the fundraisers, throughout the year our members prepare and serve meals for the homeless, help disadvantaged children with holiday shopping, assemble Valentine’s Bags for our town’s seniors, and collect items needed for other projects and organizations. Working together we develop friendships, further cultivated through our social functions and our book, craft clutch and gourmet groups. We look back on our achievements of the year and applaud the past and new leadership at our annual June Dinner, a social highlight of the WYWL membership.
Westport is a vibrant, diverse and talented community and our membership reflects this fact. We have evening as well as daytime meetings and activities that accommodate the workingwoman as well as the stay at home mother. We strive on our diversity and create a platform where women of many different backgrounds work together towards the common goal of helping make our community a better place.
While current events in the world may be out of our control, I believe that there are many things that we can shape locally that have an equally significant impact and broad reach. Actively participating in the WYWL has allowed me to work closely with many very talented women to shape my community into the caring one where I want to live in while gaining wonderful committed friends.
We are always looking for new members who are interested in meeting new people and in being active in their community through volunteerism. We accept membership applications year round. Want to become more active in the Westport community? Please click the “How to Join” in the “About Us” Tab to download an application, or e-mail us at email@example.com to learn more.
I hope you will join our organization! I am looking forward to welcoming you to the WYWL and working along side you and all of our members.
